Tim Crowley

Tim Crowley’s exhibition practice spans over three decades, with a sustained presence across China and internationally. From early presentations at White Columns and Sandra Gering Gallery in New York, alongside exhibitions at Factual Nonsense and Asprey Jacques in London, his work has developed across a wide range of contexts, from commercial galleries to major biennales and museums. Recent solo and group exhibitions include ENZO, Los Angeles (2026), multiple presentations at Bank, Shanghai, Simulacra, Beijing (2025), LV Zhangyuan Space (2024), De Ji, Nanjing (2023), and Yi Si Art Museum, Chengdu (2022). Earlier highlights include participation in the Shenzhen Biennale (2021), the Mercosul Biennale in Porto Alegre (2011), and institutional exhibitions at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Across these exhibitions, Crowley has developed a distinctive visual language that draws on the aesthetics of historical exhibition posters, reimagining them within speculative, future-oriented narratives that position his practice between painting, curatorial thinking, and conceptual storytelling.
Born in Yeovil, England, Crowley is a curator, writer, and artist who lives and works between Beijing and Hangzhou. He studied at University College London and completed an MA at Chelsea School of Art, UAL. His career has moved between exhibition-making, editorial work, and institutional leadership, including early roles at Tema Celeste and Perimeter Editions in Milan, followed by a long engagement with the Chinese art world. He has held key positions including Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, International Director of KWM Art Center, and International Consultant at BY ART MATTERS in Hangzhou, reflecting an ongoing commitment to shaping dialogue between local and global contemporary art contexts.
